I knew a pretty good artist who got drunk and took a knife to all his paintings, slashing them to bits. That was anger! And then when his girlfriend came over he blamed me!

you're right, that's anger! but well, that was the time i put gasoline over some of my paintings, pick up a lighter and put then on fire, because i was drunk...
i don't know if that's anger or just having fun...

I burned a couple of books I wrote, but only because I didn't want anyone to know I'd written them. They just weren't very good. I've trashed a few paintings as well....

True. I've been in AA for a number of years and there is the interesting formulation that "anger is an enotion we alcoholics can ill afford." I was (as a drinker,) known for repressing anger until it came out in near absolute rages. Now I'm far more mellow, and generally only have it pop up when me, my cat, or someone close is clearly threatened.
What do with the deadly sins that St. Thomas Aquinas described as states of being from which all sins arise has been a problem for mankind since it picked up a club.
